Welcome to Marlings, the award-winning New Forest Vineyard

Marlings is one of the oldest vineyards in Hampshire and our aim is to make a range of wines that we’re proud to share with everyone who enjoys the remarkable New Forest.

We produce high quality English sparkling wines, most notably our award-winning Sparkling Rosé made using traditional methods, and a range of still white and rosé wines.

We are a small team with a passion for wine-making and our head wine-maker, Piotr Nahajski, is a qualified viticulturist, with a masters degree in wine making.

Location

Marlings Vineyard is nestled in a secluded valley bordering the village of Sway on the southern edge of the beautiful New Forest National Park in Hampshire.

We enjoy a south facing and generally sunny aspect, sheltered by the surrounding forest, with well drained soil which is mostly gravel overlaid with sandy clay known locally as Marl, from which the vineyard takes it’s name.

History

Marlings was first planted in 1990 and we benefit from mature vines that are now almost 30 years old. Local legend has it that some of the first bottles of Marlings English Table Wine were served in the Houses of Parliament.

Grape varieties

The vineyard was originally planted with varieties more suitable for the climate of that time including Bacchus, Dornfelder, Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc, which we still grow today.

More recently, we have planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines; varieties that can now flourish in our warmer climate and feature in our sparking wines.

Wine-making

Our cooler English climate allows for the slow, gentle ripening of our grapes, helping to ensure an optimal acidity for our wines as well as adding complexity and refinement.

All our grapes are carefully hand-picked to ensure we choose only the finest fruit and then we gently press and blend them in our own winery.
